The Third Eye Chakra is the energy center located in the center of the forehead. It governs the ultimate understanding of one’s awareness of self and external environment. A hoop dancer will benefit from a balanced Ajna, the Sanskrit name of this energy center, because he/she will know AND understand the why of our inner guidance.
A balanced Third Eye is notable in people with a deep compassion for others and their selves through intuition. The Chakra allows a person to see past their own emotional response to observe a situation without personal judgement. A hula hoop is the perfect tool for aligning this energy center as it helps a person focus on the present moment.
On the other hand, if this energy center is unbalanced, a person will miss subtle warning signals and seem to be constantly down on their luck. This is due to expectation of outcomes and the disappointment that follows them. A weak Ajna will show up as distraction from worry of past and future situations instead of focusing on what is happening right in front of them.
It takes many years of mindful practice to understand and feel comfortable with this energy center but here are a few suggestions on how to get started in the arena of hula hoop dancing:

When this energy center is in balance, a person is able to see past their own emotional response and to listen to their own inner guidance. As a hoop dancer, one should learn to balance all the lower chakras before attempting to open the Ajna. Self awareness is a must for artists of all trades.
Dancing with a hula hoop is the expression of creativity through movement. This connects with the Throat Chakra, or Vishuddha in sanskrit, as this energy center deals with communication and self expression. The art of dance is the communication of one’s body with the audience and environment. A hula hoop becomes a useful tool to allowing this expression is flourish with ease.
A free flowing Throat Chakra is essential for a hoop dancer. Hoop Dance is the equivalent to a philosophy on life. It is the religion of movement and some people will either make it their whole life (yup, that’s me) or just pass it off as a few happy experiences. If the former, then one has high passionate energy related to hula hooping. This expression is facilitated through a well balanced Vishuddha.
One tends to be highly critical in the case of a off balanced Throat Chakra. This criticism stems from a poor attitude and uncertainty of one self. A person with poor energy flow in this Chakra center will have an inability to express self awareness and one’s own truth. This energy center is the most noticed because it is related to the communication of our mouth and throat area.
There are many things to do if you feel that your Throat Chakra is showing signs of weak or overpowered energetic flow. Here are a few suggestions:
– Bring back self awareness through meditation.
– During a meditation session imagine an aura of healing blue light surround your body.
– Write poetry or free form prose to truly express feelings

In the midst of flow, a hoop dancer has their heart chakra open and appears to be ‘unstuck’ or ‘unbeaten’. This is the literal meaning of the Sanskrit term for the Heart Chakra, or Anahata. This Chakra is the connection between the lower Chakras of the body and the higher Chakras of the mind.
A person with a well balanced Heart Chakra will be compassionate and can forgive people with ease. This Chakra is the energy center that deals with out our fear of betrayal leading to jealous feelings that destroy relationships.
It is of utmost importance that a hoop dancer’s heart chakra be in balance with the rest of the chakras.
When hooping, a person is pushing out a tremendous amount of energy from their dance. This energy is so powerful that many people become captivated by this constant energy flow and unknowingly take some of it into their own being. As hoop dancers we must be aware of the type of energy we put out into the Universe.
There are several things you can do to balance your Heart Chakra:
-Find a space out in nature to meditate and make peace with your past hurts of your emotional self.
-Wear green clothing to surround yourself in the color associated with the Anahata
-Imagine a green light washing over your body and emanating love onto yourself
-Put some groove into your dance by getting yourself a ‘One Love’ LED hula hoop from the shop!
Since the fourth Chakra is the connection between the body and the mind, it is important for hoop dancers to align their energy. When in balance this Chakra will allow a person to give love to self and to others.
Now let’s see how to balance the next chakra up, the Throat Chakra.
The Navel Chakra, or Manipura, is the Third major energy center in our bodies. It is the chakra that gives off the energy of how we feel about ourselves. Once we have conquered the second Chakra, or Svadhistana which you can read about here, we come to a place of understanding our own personal power. It is the delicate balance of assertion of boundaries and the willingness to be open to love others as they are in the present form. This personal power is greatly enhanced with a hoop in hand.
A hoop dancer will find benefits with having the Manipura in balance because you are in control of your perceptions. It is good to be able to laugh at yourself when you are having trouble ‘nailing a trick’ instead of becoming angry or upset. It is the energy center that allows you to let go instead of holding onto a negative feeling.
Balance in the third chakra will show up as a healthy ego in a person who also has a strong understanding one’s own self worth. A person whose Manipura is out of control will be critical of others with harsh judgements. A poor energy alignment of this chakra will show up as lack of confidence and inability to complete projects or overcome personal obstacles.
There are a variety of ways you can balance out this energy center. As a hoop dancer (or future hoop dancer! Here are a few other tips to help you balance out this critical chakra:
-Wear Healing Crystal Jewelry or Carry Citrine stones in your pocket
– Imagine a yellow aura around your body to build up the light for your confident self
-Try out Yoga poses that are directed at opening up the Navel Chakra such as Boat or Bow poses

This Chakra also is the center that focuses on addictions and self control. If you are feeling stifled in your creative expression, are having issues with control or harboring any emotional instability, it is time to balance your Sacral Chakra. There are plenty of ways to restore your energetic equilibrium including using a hula hoop!
Now that you have cleared your Root Chakra from reading the Muladhara entry in the Chakra Alignment in Hoop Dance series, it is time to re-invigorate or calm the energetic force of the Svadhistana Chakra. Excess energy in a chakra center is just as damaging as too little energy. One must be mindful of the Sacral Chakra as it is the Center that also encompasses our sexual organs which are the tools used in creation. In turn, the second chakra is the magnet that attracts the people you manifest in your life.
Here are a few things you can try out to help balance out the Sacral Chakra:
– Dance and ‘Hoop it out’ like no one is watching with a custom PE taped hoop from the shop.
– Meditate and imagine yourself surrounded in an Orange Aura of light. Orange is the color associated with this Chakra.
– Call out to your divine feminine energy to reawaken your creative mind.
– Essential oils, from flowers such as Jasmine and Rose, will aid in the re-balancing of energy flow
The Sacral Chakra is the most powerful energy center of the body. One will feel open to express emotions when in balance with the other chakras. This expression leads to the creative self to flourish and connect with the rest of the world.

The art of Hoop Dance is another way to create a sacred space for your mind, body and spirit. To find balance in hoop dancing will greatly enhance the state of your flow. In order to build integrity in your foundation, one must focus on balancing the most important chakra, the base Chakra. This is where we will start to understand our connection with the hoop.
The base chakra, also known as Muladhara in sanskrit, is the energy center that connects you to this physical world. This base or root chakra is important because like any integral structure, the base will determine the balance of the rest of the building. Balance of the base structure you will help you feel calm, secure and confident. Your relationships, finances, and career will be on point and life will flow freely through the days.
When the base chakra is unbalanced, one will experience laziness, disconnection from reality, have major self doubts and are unable to keep clear boundaries. As a hoop dancer, whenever you feel out of touch with your flow, you need to balance your Root Chakra. Lucky for us, we have the perfect tool to help us balance it all out.

– Wear Red or Brown as these colors are associated with the Muladhara.
– Use mindful Meditation clear any blockages or an over active chakra
